LEAD INSTRUCTOR
JOHN BYRD
John Byrd is the Lead Instructor at Delta Defense, LLC. He is a former Special Forces Operative who served in The United States Army. In this arena he has trained military personnel from numerous countries in the use of all types of weapons, military tactics and intelligence. He brings over 40 years of firearms instruction and training to the team.
Along with his military background, John also provides training and consultation in executive protection for both the public and private sector as well as for non-profit organizations.

KEVIN BYRD
Kevin is an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer and is certified for NRA Basic Instruction in Pistol, Rifle, Personal Protection in the Home and Personal Protection Outside the Home and is a graduate of the Sig Sauer Academy. He is an instructor for all of Delta Defense's Advanced Firearms classes. Additionally, Kevin is a saber fencing coach.
Kevin started shooting at a young age with the benefit of having his dad, a Special Forces operative, teaching him. He actively trains in all of the advanced disciplines he teaches. When not teaching or training for classes, Kevin spends time going home to Montana, sky diving, rock climbing, backpacking, fly fishing and loving his family.

Kevin is also a certified Master Sig Sauer Armorer leading the charge on the in-house customization of guns. He is an avid collector and dealer of World War II Memorabilia and of course, guns.

STACI BYRD
Staci Byrd is the lone lady instructor on our team. She was born and raised in the Upstate of South Carolina and has survived being married to Kevin.
Staci is a SC CWP Instructor, NRA Certified Basic Pistol Instructor. She is also a yellow belt in IKI Krav Maga. She enjoys working with ladies who have never handled firearms before and teaches all of our woman's only classes.

Staci is also Delta Defense's main point of contact. She is looking forward to helping you sign up for your class.

INSTRUCTOR
DONNIE NICHOLSON
Donnie Nicholson is an instructor for our advanced handgun, carbine and precision shooting courses. He is a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division certified CWP instructor and holds certifications from the NRA in Pistol/Rifle instruction and Range Safety Officer. He is the Lead Instructor for our Shotgun and Precision Pistol courses and assistant lead for Handgun 5 and Vehicle Defensive Tactics.
When instructing a class, whether it be beginner or advanced, he always puts special emphasis on safety, fundamentals and as much one-on-one instruction that is needed to make sure everyone gains
the knowledge they are seeking.

KALEB YOUNG

Kaleb has been involved with martial arts since the age of 4. He trained in Krav Maga under Israeli Krav International instructor, Moshe Katz in Israel and is a second dan IKI Krav Maga Black Belt.

FRED LYON
​
Fred Lyon was born and raised in upstate South Carolina and has had a love for firearms as long as he can remember. Fred is a veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served during the Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm. Fred was assigned to the ASF Police Force and worked directly with DOD police during the LA riots in 1992.
​
Fred is an NRA Certified Basic Pistol Instructor as well as a South Carolina SLED Concealed Weapons Permit Instructor. Fred enjoys Spending his time on the range instructing almost as much as he does shooting.

Concealed Carry Law Updates
The South Carolina Legislature recently passed S. 308. With it's passage, South Carolina CWP holders are now permitted to legally carry a firearm into restaurants that serve alcohol providing the permit holder does NOT consume alcohol.
In addition, with the passage of S. 308, CWP holders are now permitted to store their firearm in the glove compartment, center console, map pocket on the side of the door or under the seat provided the firearm is secured from unexpected movement or unauthorized access.
Private Lessons & Custom Sessions
Delta Defense is uniquely qualified to provide customized training to meet your specific skill level. Our experienced instructors will develop specialized sessions of one-on-one training. Each session is $75 per hour with a 2-hour minimum.
